El Pico Water Treatment Plant
Construction of the El Pico Water Treatment Plant, being built for the City of Laredo, Texas, began in October 2011. It is a surface water treatment plant that will take water directly from the north bank of the Rio Grande River with an initial capacity of 20 million gallons per day—Phase 1.
This new water plant will supplement the production capacity of the City of Laredo’s existing Jefferson Street Water Treatment Plant. Completion of Phase 1 is scheduled for the second quarter of 2014. The plant is being built in phases, with an ultimate capacity of 120 million gallons per day. This is the largest project the City of Laredo has ever undertaken. This project bid out at $89,738,625.00.
